We loved up cycling our whites and giving them fresh life in our first vegetable dying post, and wanted to experiment with applying this same technique to some of our bridal gowns to dye them in soft dreamy tones ~ a perfect way to repurpose your wedding day gown, or maybe even create beautiful bridesmaid dresses? If you do recreate this we’d love to see how your dresses turn out! #SpellDIY to share your creations.

The Gwendolyn Gown has been dyed with dark avocado skins, for the Elizabeth Gown we’ve used the skin of brown onions, and the colour of the Aurora gown is funnily beetroot – which had turned out a muted yellow, and as we tried to achieve a brighter tone we’ve mixed it with Turmeric powder.  Anita is wearing the Magnolia Gown, turned into a midi dress with a double skirt to be less sheer.

Scroll down for method and recipe cards for each colour.

To note…

In Sophie’s experience the fabrics will have slight variances in their colour due to the natural dying process (we love that each piece comes out looking slightly different!)
Intensity varies depending on the fabric you’re using – cotton, linen, rayon are best.
The name Moon Dye comes from Sophie’s mentor who is called Moon.

Each recipe card is per 1 meter of fabric, simply increase the ingredients your using for bigger batches based on how much fabric you’re dying.

xx
